What Is The Agenda Behind Casting Darker Skinned Women With White Men?

The need for a Black Juliet is making me realize a sad fact🙄

The image above features two captivating individuals set to star in the latest rendition of Romeo and Juliet. However, akin to the criticism Halle Bailey faced for her portrayal of Ariel in The Little Mermaid, actress Francesca Amewudah-Rivers is now enduring harsh backlash for her role as Juliet. I find myself grappling with conflicting thoughts… I support Francesca and condemn the unfair treatment she’s receiving, yet I’m also uncertain about the necessity of a Black Juliet.

I definitely do not agree with how this young lady is being treated, yet I also do not understand why need a Black Juliet.

24 years ago, when Aaliyah and Jet Li starred in Romeo Must Die, there was widespread excitement about the film. Aaliyah, a Black woman and talented singer, and Jet Li, an Asian actor/martial artist, held prominent roles, and there wasn’t significant backlash. Perhaps it was because of our admiration for these stars, the absence of pervasive social media, or Aaliyah’s physical attributes — her slender frame, long hair, and lighter complexion.

Not sure if she would receive backlash these days, but I do remember some negative comments when she played as…
