Come To think Of It — I Embrace AAPI Heritage Every Month
I am touched by a culture rich in history and art
Happy AAPI Month! I want to take the time to show some love, support and just my general love for the AAPI communities. Recently, President Joe Biden included Native Hawaiians in the Asian American Pacific Islander acronym. This month I’ll write think pieces on the literature, art, religion and other content related to this special group of people who have contributed so much to the world.
When I reflect on the ways in which I celebrate AAPI+ Native Hawaiians, I suppose one would guess that I always have. Even though there tend to be tensions among the races and even though I may have said some uneducated things and had some uneducated things said back to me — I take it all as a learning experience( long story ).
We all leave a stamp on this world in some way and for some reason, since 2006, I have been drawn to the Asian culture. Perhaps it was because of my dad who practiced Tae Kwon Do and enjoyed Japanese comics. Perhaps it was a kind young lady introducing me to Japanese animations. Or, it could be that the culture is so richly unique from my own, that it leaves me breathless.
